Whakakotahitanga is a comprehensive guideline that provides recommendations and principles for the diagnosis of FASD in Aotearoa. It emphasises a holistic approach, incorporating Te Ao Māori frameworks and Pacific models.

The function of the diagnostic guidelines is not just to clarify diagnosis. The aspiration is that the knowledge gained through the assessment process enhances the mana of whānau and the likelihood of a healthy future.

This training programme is grounded in the principles of Whakakotahitanga—unity and collaboration—bringing together the needs and aspirations of whānau and clinicians to ensure the FASD Diagnostic Guidelines are effectively implemented and culturally appropriate for use in Aotearoa.

Through this training, participants will gain critical insights into decision-making around the diagnostic criteria, culturally responsive approaches, and evidence-based practices for assessing and supporting individuals affected by FASD. Our programme is tailored to meet the unique needs of Aotearoa, reflecting our commitment to te Tiriti o Waitangi, equity, inclusivity, and the well-being of all New Zealanders.
